Discovering Columbus
Producing a photographic series in four hours around the strangeness of being a tourist in Madrid was the initial framework for this project. The work took the form of a fanzine (a short-run photography publication) developed as part of a workshop led by Ricardo Cases within UNESCO’s Transcultura program, in which I participated alongside artists from the Caribbean.
In Discovering Columbus, I identify, point out, and document more than a dozen sites bearing this name within just over a one-kilometer radius. The pervasive presence of this figure was deeply unsettling to me. While I do not believe in erasing history, I do believe it is both necessary and urgent to address it from a critical and contemporary perspective.
